Louis Roederer Collection 242 Champagne launch

Collection 242: the freedom of Louis Roederer style

An exciting new addition to the Louis Roederer family was launched at Northcote this week, with some of the region’s finest wine merchants invited to be among the first to try the new Champagne in the most appropriate surroundings our our Louis Roederer Champagne Room.

A three-course lunch menu created by Lisa Goodwin-Allen included a pairing with wines from the House of Roederer. The Collection 242 was served with Lisa Orkney scallop starter. Main course was Cumbrian lamb, the perfect match for the rich fruit and oaky notes of the Château de Pez and to finish, a signature Warm Bramley ‘Apple Pie’ paired beautifully with the Louis Roederer Carte Blanche.

The vibrant and contemporary new wine was created out of a desire for freedom, to take the quality of their multi-vintage blends  to an even higher level and the number 242 in its name represents the number of blends since the inception of the house to the base vintage.

Tasting Notes

Aged between 3 and 4 years in cellars, Collection is a deep and nuanced Champagne that can be enjoyed now or with a few years of cellar ageing to further hone its complexity and draw outt he unique characteristics of each blend. This epicurean Champagne is Louis Roederer’s great multi-vintage Champagne, its most respected flagship wine.

Collection opens with notes of white fruit, citrus zest and acacia blossom, which are followed by a light touch of roasted hazelnuts, the hallmark of the Chardonnay. The long, very pure structure ends on a pleasing saline note. Collection’s freshness, precision, and finesse make it an exceptionally approachable Champagne, yet one that also beautifully over time to reveal even more complex and precise flavours.
