Christine Allen
Christine really owes her love of wine to her grandfather, spending many summers drinking through his well-stocked cellar in Germany, and developing a love for Riesling. Having graduated with a Masters in War Studies, Christine started her career in the whisky industry in Scotland before the temptation to join the wine industry became too much. With years of experience across Buying, Marketing and Sales, Christine joined the team in September 2014 as Brand Manager.
A self-confessed wine geek and lover of all things Spain, Christine has worked vintages in Rioja and Calatayud and holds her Diploma in Wine and Spirits, passed with Distinction. Christine was awarded the Wines of Great Britian Prize for outstanding achievement in the Global Business of Wine exams while studying for her diploma.

Marqués de Murrieta
Marqués de Murrieta was one of the first Rioja Houses to be established, in 1852, by Luciano Francisco Ramón de Murrieta one of the founding fathers of modern Rioja winemaking. A pioneer in the region, he was the first to develop complexity and longevity from Tempranillo, Rioja’s indigenous red grape, and set the precedent for the quality and style in Rioja today. In the 1980s, the winery was taken over by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family, from renowned Galician estate Pazo Barrantes, and has continued the pioneering spirit of Luciano and respecting the unique land of Finca Ygay.
Today the estate covers 300 hectares, and the philosophy is one of quality, with low yields in the vineyard and limited production in the winery which are the key to the quality and style of Marqués de Murrieta wines. The vineyards are divided into several smaller plots, including the single vineyards of Capellanía, Canajas, and La Plana, the home of the esteemed Castillo Ygay, which was voted the number one wine in the world by Wine Spectator last year.
Winemaker Maria Vargas, having been at the winery since she graduated over 25 years ago, works alongside the family to develop, and evolve the signature Murrieta style, creating subtle yet age-worthy red wines alongside leading the way for world class white wines from Rioja with Capellania and the rare Castillo Ygay Blanco. These are truly handmade, world class wines from the oldest family-owned estate in Rioja.
