Northcote Awarded Best of Award of Excellence for a Third Year Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Awards 2016
Luxury, independent country hotel and Michelin star restaurant, Northcote has been awarded a Best of Award of Excellence in the 2016 Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Awards and is the only restaurant in the north of England to have received such an accolade.
These awards recognise restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers. It is Northcote’s breadth across multiple winegrowing regions including Burgundy, Spain and Portugal, as well as its 505 selections and their absolute commitment to wine, demonstrated by their cellar and their team that has led them to achieving this award.
Each month Northcote’s wine team – chaired by Nick Adams MW, and attended by Julian Kaye Managing Director of The Wright Wine Company, Tamas Czinki Head Sommelier, and Craig Bancroft, Managing Director of Northcote – meets to discuss and taste wines with a view of continually improving the list. The list now represents 52 Champagnes and Sparkling Wines and 500 Bins of still wines from 20 Countries with a strong representation from Portugal. Northcote also prides itself on value, with wines on the list ranging from £26 through to £800.
Food and wine matching is also a huge focus for the team at Northcote based on their mission to be an oasis of gastronomic excellence. Led by Craig Bancroft and Tamas Czinki, and the team of five sommeliers, great pride is taken in serving customers carefully curated wine flights that take them on a unique and satisfying wine journey.
