Popping the cork on English Wine Week
Tomorrow marks the start of a week of celebration of English wine as a trio of homegrown bottles will be available by the glass during English Wine Week (25 May – 2 June).
With over 400 vineyards spread across the country, English wine now rivals its European counterparts on the global stage. Many bottles produced in our country are award-winners and this week we’re looking forward to popping the corks on wines specially chosen by our Head Sommelier Tamas Czinki.
What a great time to to take a seat on our garden terrace, and enjoy the perfect spot to try some beautiful sparkling English wines!
“Regarded as being the very pinnacle of English sparkling wine, it is only released when deemed ready by the Master Sommelier. Selected from the finest lots of Chardonnay with natural minerality, this ensures that the wine has the finesse and elegance you expect from this style.”
“One of the first single vineyard sparkling wines from the UK. Head winemaker Cherie Spriggs discovered an extraordinary parcel of Pinot Noir at the Tillington site with a fantastic fruit character. This parcel is then blended with specially selected Chardonnay grapes – also exclusively from the Tillington vineyard – which add elegance and finesse to the wine. 2013 produced powerful Pinot Noir and minerally Chardonnay so this is arguably the best Tillington yet! Its fine bubbles with the British summer fruit aromas of strawberry and raspberry make it a fantastic drink to enjoy outdoors.”
“A gold and silver medal winner in several international wine competitions, this is a pure expression of English strawberry and raspberry notes. It has a very high acidity which keeps the wine alive on your palate and provides a lingering finish with red berry and brioche notes. It is made entirely from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes which give it a pale salmon pink colour.”
