An Evening with Bevan Newton–Johnson & his amazing award winning South African Wine Portfolio

Winner of the inaugural Editor’s Award (Platters 2019 South Africa Wine Guide) 

Newton Johnson Vineyards is owned and managed by the Newton Johnson family. Gordon and Nadia Newton Johnson are the husband-and-wife winemaking team with experience of over 30 vintages between them. Having been hooked he was largely self-taught before taking over the reins of winemaking at Newton Johnson in 1999. Season after season farming their own vineyards gave them a holistic understanding of the vineyard site and the means to allow the wine to follow a natural path. Experience with an individual vineyard is invaluable and ultimately enables them to discover the finest detail that makes it distinctive. Hence they make the wines with a soft hand, rejecting commercial additives, and in a manner that befits each and every vineyard.

The Hemel-en-Aarde has seen an explosion of quality Pinot Noir over the last decade, and we believe it to be capable of producing wines of world renowned authenticity. Newton Johnson's focus is ever more on perfecting techniques in the vineyard and cellar that resonate the best of their conditions. The sloped vineyards face the southern winds of the cold Atlantic which couple freshness with the linearity and florals produced in the wines by their granite soils. It is a discovery of this translation from their farm that encourages them to make wines free from the distortion of modern convention and convenience, wines with purity of flavour and natural expression.

We are delighted to be joined by Bevan Newton Johnson, who has worked on the family wine farm since 1997.
