The Art of Sabrage: A celebration of Champagne
Thu 28th Sep, 2017
7:15pm arrival for 8:15pm
Louis Roederer Private Dining Rooms, Northcote
£150.00 per person
Two hundred years ago, daring young cavalry officers in the French Army would slice the cork off the champagne bottle with their sabre, rather than put themselves to the effort of removing the wire basket and easing out the cork. From those noble beginnings the Art of Sabrage has developed into an exciting and fun way of celebrating the joy of champagne.
A Celebration of Champagne
We invite you to become a “Sabreur of the Confriérie” at Northcote on the 28th of September. The evening will be hosted by our own Craig Bancroft who has achieved Commander le Sabreur. You will be handed a Sabre and a chilled bottle of champagne to sever the top of the bottle with the sword’s blade - don't worry, rarely does anyone fail with the expert guidance from the visiting Maître-Sabreur! And of course, once sabraged the bottle releases its precious contents for your enjoyment...
If you have attended the event before there is a chance to to elevate to the next rank of a Chevalier. This would be an additional £140 per person + the annual subscription of £60. Following this up front cost, the annual subscription will be £60 per person.
This fantastic tradition adds immeasurably to the enjoyment of champagne and of course encourages its consumption… A sabraged bottle cannot be re-corked, or closed!
