Lisa Allen, Head Chef of Northcote takes on the Great British Menu challenge for the second year!

Great British Menu is back, and the competition is fiercer than ever as the nation's top chefs are being challenged to cook for the ultimate street party.  Last year many of you would have watched Lisa win with her dish “Levens Hall Wild Rabbit & Leek Turnover, Piccalilli” at the banquet in celebration of the National trust.

Lisa is taking on the challenge again this year and is battling it out to create spectacular sharing platters, dishes that will get everyone talking, proving that food has the power to bring us all together, for the most magnificent street party ever held.

Each week three chefs battle it out in the kitchen, for a chance to cook at the banquet and a veteran of the competition will taste and score their dishes every day. The pressure is on, as only two chefs can make it through to cook for the Great British Menu judges at the end of the week and one will be going home on Thursday.

The Great British Menu starts on Monday 4th April on BBC2 at 6.30pm.

The series kick starts with North East chefs - Andrew Pern, Stephanie Moon and Tim Bilton. Former champion Nigel Haworth will be decide who faces the Great British Menu judges.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that following the first Northcote Starlight Ball on Friday 25th March when 200 guests attended a stunning gala ball at Ewood Park to enjoy an evening of dazzling entertainment and fabulous food.

We raised £28,000 for Cancer Research. Enormous thanks to everyone involved for their generosity and support, which without doubt we could not have made the evening the success it was.

The second Starlight Ball will be held in March 2012

The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year Award recognises culinary excellence and good service at restaurants, pubs and cafés across the UK. The award gives people the opportunity to nominate their favourite local establishment across ten UK regions, with the criteria that restaurants should be independently owned and offer local produce where possible.

Northcote was listed as one of the front runners in the North West region half way through the nomination process. There is still time to for our diners to submit their nominations.
