Our very own Lisa Allen will be competing in the fifth series of BBC2’s Great British Menu and not content just to be one of three chefs representing the North West region, Lisa is also the only woman to compete in the show across the whole of the UK.
Lisa is challenged to source ingredients in and around the National Trust’s Sizergh Castle.
“It’s such a great honour to be in the show - I am so excited, Northcote has already had great success with Nigel winning through last year, and I cannot believe I have this opportunity to represent Northcote and the North West region. Being the only woman competing is a real thrill and very satisfying to represent women chefs in the UK, in such a male dominated industry” Lisa Allen
The 45 part series will follow three chefs each week as they unearth the very finest produce from the farms and gardens surrounding their local Trust or countryside location.
After putting their culinary skills to the test in the kitchen, each dish will be judged daily by a former Great British Menu champion (Nigel will be a mentor for the North East Region).
“Lisa represents the spirit of Northcote moving forward, I am extremely proud of her as a chef and of her achievements. I cannot think of anyone better that represents the strength of young British Cooks today” Nigel Haworth
In a new twist this year, the chef with the least number of points on Thursday will be eliminated from the competition and only two chefs will go through to the Friday cook-off for the three Great British menu judges, food experts - Matthew Fort, Prue Leith and Oliver Peyton

The eight regional winning chefs will compete in the final round, to create a magnificent British meal that the judges consider fitting for the finale banquet. The nation’s long-time advocate of local, seasonal food and President of the National Trust, The Prince of Wales, will be joined by the Duchess of Cornwall for the banquet and the guest list will comprise of the nation’s best food producers, farmers and fishermen, the people who toil to put the finest local British produce on the map.
