Adam’s Star Continues To Rise
Having succeeded in achieving Master Sommelier status last year, our Head Sommelier Adam Pawlowski’s star has continued to rise.
Adam recently won the ‘Hot Stuff’ category at the Imbibe Personality of The Year Awards 2015, organised by Imbibe Magazine – the UK’s leading publication for drinks professionals. In a dead-heat, both Adam and Jo Radford of Edinburgh’s Timberyard were awarded within the same category for their individual contributions to the UK’s diverse food and drink scene.
Part of the judging line-up on the night, Corin Ireland of Simpsons in Birmingham commented: “Adam has achieved great things… his story shows someone on the up with a lot more to come”.
In the latest issue of the magazine, Imbibe writes: “With his infectious energy and in-depth knowledge, Adam Pawlowski’s star has been steadily rising, culminating in the passing of the coveted Master Sommelier qualification late last year. An exemplary professional, yet down to earth and generous with his time, Pawlowski’s reputation has grown far and wide beyond Northcote where, as part of Craig Bancroft’s team, he has played an integral part in constantly evolving and innovating the drinks offer at both the Manor and its roster of quality pubs”.
The magazine continues, “An inspiration for the next generation of both up-and-coming sommeliers and others in the wine business, showing what can be achieved by a combination of hard work, dedication and passion.”
Adam was also recently featured as Riedel’s ‘Sommelier Of The Month’ at the start of the year. In an interview with the glass manufacturer, Adam talked about his beginnings in the wine industry when he first moved to the UK and shared some lesser-known stories about his international wine trips and customer experiences.
Adam is one of only 220 people in the world to receive the title of Master Sommelier and is the only Polish-born member of the Court of Master Sommeliers.
What’s the next career goal for Adam? Hopefully winning the Möet UK Sommelier Of The Year award, of which he was a semi-finalist for in both 2011 and 2014. The prestigious accolade has been won by sommeliers based in London and the south east for the past five years – including fellow Master Sommeliers Katherine Larsen (2014), Yohann Jousselin (2011) and Christophe Delalonde (2010) – and Adam is determined to bring the title to Northcote and the beautiful north west.
