Adam Pawlowski, Northcote’s Head Sommelier wins the Sud de France Sommelier Competition
Head Sommelier Adam Pawlowski’s talents were recognised once again when he was crowned the winner of the fifth annual Sud de France Sommelier Competition in September. He was selected from 50 of the top UK’s sommeliers when their knowledge and talent was put to the test.
The Sud de France Sommelier Competition aims to find the UK sommelier with the best knowledge of the Languedoc-Roussillon region and its wines, whilst raising the profile of the profession as a whole, and the wines of Languedoc-Roussillon.
After a gruelling round of written tests and wine tastings, the eleven competing sommeliers in the semi final were whittled down to just three finalists; Florent Belotti from New Street Grill, Terry Kandlyis from The Ledbury and Adam Pawlowski from Northcote. The finalist then took part in a nail-biting final where they were assessed in front of an audience in food and wine matching, blind tasting and serving rounds.
Jury Chairman, Ronan Sayburn MS said, I have been extremely impress with the competing sommelier’s skills and knowledge of Languedoc- Roussillon, a diverse and complex wine region. Adam Pawlowski is a truly deserving winner, and a credit to the sommelier profession.
Commenting on his success, Adam said, “I’ve had a wonderful time taking part in the Sud de France Sommelier competition. The competition was challenging but thoroughly enjoyable and I am honoured to have been named the winner, amongst some very talented sommeliers.”
